Dieting
So my hubby and I decided to try the South Beach diet. Very good book, even if you aren't dieting. He explains how your body metabolizes food, how you can trick it into changing, etc. First 2 weeks weren't bad. That's the "tricking" time. No carbs, like the Atkin's diet. Then you begin slowly introducing carbs back in, but you should continue to lose. I actually lost 7.5 pounds. (Hubby did much better, but it's disgusting to us women how much faster men can lose weight, so I'm not telling his tale.) Then came birthday donuts and handfuls of Skittles because I was craving sugar so much. Even though I have gone back to eating healthy, I am gaining again. So screw it, life's too short. Last night I had an ice cream bar with whipped cream on every bite. Ahhhhhh, now what do I do?
I guess I'll be like my Grandma who ate frozen Metracal and thought that made up for the cakes and cookies she ate as her main course. I see people in their 80's who have a body like a 20 year old. Then I see others who are like me. I can't really exercise long enough, because then I can't breathe. Its a vicious cycle. I wish that when I was young, they taught us what they know now. Don't ever stop exercising, because when you do, it's almost impossible to start again.
The bariatric surgeons are in the clinic where I work. They do lap-band surgery on people day after day. But these people have to change their lifestyle, their whole way of eating. So why not do it without the surgery? We are a spoiled nation.
Guess I'll go make breakfast now.
